November 5 Hacking Spree as anti surveillance protest.

Several hacking groups went on a hacking spree, by hacking many company and government sites.

That day according to historical facts, Guy Fawkes, also known as Guido Fawkes, the name he adopted while fighting for the Spanish in the Low Countries, was a member of a group of provincial English Catholics who planned the failed Gunpowder Plot of 1605.So they celebrated the historical event, not with Gunpowder but in terms of Cyber warfare. An invisible attack but an effective one.

Hacking groups targeted many internet systems. For instance, the Anonymous attacks were focused on surveillance systems like TrapWire and INDECT. Systems that claim to threat to privacy and certain civil freedoms while other groups focused on much or less crucial systems.

The hacking spree included hacking the following:
  •   Arcelor Mittal, an Australian steel and mining company
  •   Ascension Australia
  •   Australian government websites
  •   Ghana Consulate website
  •   Giftnow, a homewares website
  •   Greek City website
  •   Lady Gaga's fan site (hell yeah :-P )
  •   Leaking the VMware ESX Server Kernel source code
  •   The Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe
which some are of more or less vital importance.

Moreover, some websites were defaced while some other websites and services were hacked by obtaining crucial data (shells, file permission settings, source codes etc) and leaking them to the internet.Such confidential Intel spread like words.

So could this be a possible annual action ? Its a matter of time to find it out.
