Twitter appeals court ruling, tries to protect user's personal data

Twitter announced οn Thursday that it will appeal a ruling in the state of New York instead of compromising personal data of one of its users. The user's name is Malcolm Harris and he is a senior editor at online publication The New Inquiry. He is also an active supporter of the Occupy Wall Street movement.  In October 2011 Harris was arrested along with more than 700 other people, when during a large Occuoy Wall Street protest they blocked the Brooklyn Bridge.

New YouTube feature allows you to blur faces for privacy

YouTube announced at its YouTube blog on Wednesday that it is launching a new privacy related feature, one that allows users to blur out faces in videos with one click, protecting the identities of the people on them. Human rights concerns for people pictured in activist footage was a big motive in building this new feature, according to the blog post.

The feature doesn't offer users the ability to selectively blur out faces, but at least for now, it will automatically blur out all detected faces in the video. You can find the new option in the Video Enhancements tool under "Additional Features". All you have to do is click Apply for the Blur All Faces option. You will then see a preview of the modified video. The blog post warns that certain faces or frames might be missed, and recommends that users keep their videos private if the blurring is not satisfactory.The new blurring feature will be available to all users by the end of Wednesday.
