The United Nations want to pursue more Internet Surveillance.

The United Nations expressed the will to increase surveillance of internet users in order to prevent any possible terrorism actions.

The U.N. made a report on the matter, especially focusing on "potential terrorism and propaganda through social networks and services", claiming that "terrorists are utilizing social networks and sharing sites like Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and Dropbox to spread propaganda."

So the U.N. came with the suggestion that it would be an advantage if certain websites such as instant-messaging services and VoIP providers including Skype would keep records of "communication over the Internet such as chat room postings."

Other suggestions through the report include:

  • Open Wi-Fi networks: by requiring registration for the use of Wi-Fi networks or cybercafes
  • Cell phone tracking: used by law enforcement to exclude suspects from crime scenes and for verification issues.
  • Terror video games:Inspect video footage of violent acts of terrorism or video games developed by terrorist organizations that simulate acts of terrorism.
  • Paying companies for surveillance:  Not that is not happening but trying to make it more "legal" in the long term.

So there are "pros and cons " that must be taken to consideration in order to come up with a reasonable conclusion to this matter.
