Comcast rumored to launch 305 Mbps internet service

Last month Verizon launched a new tier for its FiOS Internet service set at 300 Mbps for downloads and up to 65 Mbps for uploads. That was twice the max speed the ISP offered before. Now, according to a new report from DSLReports.com, Comcast is going to launch its own new high speed Internet service that is five Mbps faster than Verizon's FiOS.

The report says, via unnamed sources, that Comcast plans to offer some of its customers 305 Mbps download speeds. However, this service will apparently be for Comcast customers who live in areas that are also covered by Verizon's FiOS.Comcast's new service is supposed to launch by the end of 2012. The price for Verizon's 300 Mbps service is $205 a month. There's no information yet about the price of Comcast's 305 Mbps tier, or what the upload speed will be
