In April, a Kickstarter campaign was started to fund the development of Pebble,
a wristwatch that would link to your iPhone or Android smartphone
and offer a number of different functions. The response to the
project was huge. People started pledging their money right away in order to be the
first to receive the Pebble watches before they would be made available
to the general public. The Pebble team managed to raise over $10 million which made that the biggest campaign ever on Kickstarter.
The first Pebble wristwatches were supposed to ship to the people that backed the project in September. But today, the team has admitted in a post on their Kickstarter page that the watches won't ship that month after all. While the team didn't mention a new date, it said: "... our current
schedule has us on track to go from manufacturing zero to 15,000 Pebbles
per week as soon as possible."
People who pledged their money for the Pebble were also given a chance to vote for a
fourth color scheme for the device. The three previously announced colors are Jet
Black, Arctic White, and Cherry Red. Today, the Pebble team has
announced that the winning fourth color will in fact be Orange: "The exact color appearance may vary from this rendering as we
work with our plastics supplier."
