Google plans to focus in hardware based security methods.

Since security is a major concern for everyone, Google is interested more and more in hardware based security methods, experimenting with Yubikey technology through her services.





So what is a Yubikey?

Its a USB device much like USB storage disks.

 

 Identified as a USB-keyboard, users just plug it in their computer systems and push their finger through the cyclic surface. It is an interface which allows users, have safe access through networks.

Appropriate software, verifies the user and the password and then, you get access.

Its main usage is for:
  • System integration
  • Remote access
  • Password Management
  • Computer log-in
  • disk encryption and
  • Internet Services
Its practically indestructible, waterproof, crush safe and needs no battery for use.

 Its widely used mainly for personal security (Mostly for personal devices).

Though, Google plans a research based on online account authentication, by using such hardware devices, according to their security needs.Also will work on a wireless version of the platform that could be embedded in a cellphone.

 However, the research is not yet clear how to work but will be unveiled later in the month.
