Bittorrent Inc. testing new revenue stream: Spreading RealPlayer

According to the Bittorrent blog, the company is now testing a new way of generating revenue benefiting both themselves and the artists. Unfortunately that includes spreading the controversial software Realplayer. Erik Klinker, Bittorrent CEO, said on Bittorrent's blog that the company is trying "a new idea that could revolutionize the content business".  The idea is to release various types of media content to the Bittorrent network for free and to generate revenue by including a software offer from partners. Both Bittorrent Inc. and the artists get paid once the software is downloaded too.

The beginning of this new monetization method starts with a download featuring the work of  hip-hop artist DJ Shadow, a bundle including music, archival footage, photos and the "free and optional" RealPlayer software for PC. When you download the bundle, you can fortunately opt-out of installing RealPlayer by selecting the "Just gimme the files" option.
