Crackberry reports that RIM is adding Siri-like commands to the latest Dev Alpha version
of the BlackBerry 10 OS. Users will be able to add appointments, check the weather,
review appointments, and more, by just talking to their device.
What’s
interesting though is the fact that Blackberry already had similar
functionality in all of their smartphones. Users have always
been able to use their voice to call contacts, for example.
Unfortunately they never saw the mass appeal for this feature and
therefore didn’t put in many resources to keep improving it and updating it with new capabilities, allowing Apple’s Siri and Samsung’s S-Voice to take
over.
Does RIM have a chance of competing with the likes of Google, Apple,
and Microsoft or has the ship already sailed?
