IBM efforts for simulating a human brain with Super Computers continue.

By using the IBM Sequoia supercomputer, the company managed to proceed further in simulating  a human brain.

Common logic says that a human brain is the most complex thing that exists on earth. Well that thing does not stop IBM from achieving their Goal.

We all know by ourselves that our human brain thinks and does a lot. In the technological way, we manage to communicate from distance, travel with vehicles, adapt and improve our living, even explore the universe ! All those simply by evolving gradually as species, eating nutrients and thinking.

Now a computer, is a system which also took years to be made and come to the final form that we see in our days. Yet it does nothing all by itself (needs our interference) and needs a lot of resources to be made !

So IBM, by analyzing how the human brain is functioning and by the use of the companies Supercomputers, managed to simulate 530 billion neurons and 100 trillion synapses, matching the numbers of the human brain.

Though, the equipment that is used, still needs improvements because large amounts  of power consumption is needed! IBM experiments on building appropriate equipment too!

Here is a video of the IBM team talking about the concept of Cognitive Systems and Human brain emulation:

However, this does not  lead to a brain simulation by itself but still is a step forward to it's achievement!

Now many people would wonder why should we go that far and simulate a brain?

There are future applications that such an investment could be of use:
  •  improved weather forecasts,
  • stock market predictions,
  • intelligent patient monitoring systems that can perform diagnoses in real time,
  • optical character recognition (OCR) and speech recognition software matching human performance,
and many other that our minds can think of !
